ARC Energy pointed out in the counter-control document that GT Solar's allegations are not legally based, and that any of its ARC products or technologies do not use any proprietary technology of GT Solar and counter GT Solar's anti-competitive behavior.
ARC claims that its proprietary c-axis CHES sapphire technology is different from other sapphire growth technologies (including GT). ARC Energy's technology for growing sapphire crystals on the c-axis offers several advantages over the a-axis technology. C-axis wafers are the best orientation for LED applications, and c-axis growth technology can improve material utilization and lower overall cost compared to traditional technologies.
ARC said that GT Solar deliberately made false and defamatory remarks about ARC Energy's business and products, and stated that GT Solar did so illegally to prevent ARC Energy's sapphire crystal growth system from entering the LED market.
