E-book standards working group established to be responsible for related standards

With its huge advantages of rich content, convenient use, and timely access to various types of information, e-books have started a powerful impact on traditional reading and information acquisition methods. At the same time, with the improvement of electronic ink, digital copyright, human-computer interaction interface and other related aspects, e-books are becoming an emerging hotspot in the development of information technology.

From the domestic and foreign markets, about 4 million e-book readers were sold worldwide in 2009. It is expected that sales of e-book readers will reach 12 million units in 2010 and 18 million units in 2012. Some companies expect to exceed US $ 2.5 billion by the end of 2013. At this stage, China's 2009 e-book readers are 800,000 units, and this year it may reach 3 million units, which will show a blowout situation. Due to China's population advantage, it is likely to become the world's largest e-book reader market in the next few years.

From the perspective of the industry chain, the entire e-book is produced by equipment manufacturers of e-readers, and reading content publishers including traditional newspapers, books, magazines and websites provide content that can be read, and the content can be communicated through multiple communication methods. And distributed to users by telecom operators and multiple platforms.

China published the first relevant standard for e-books in 2002, GB / T18787-2002 "General Specification for Electronic Book Readers", which is under the jurisdiction of the National Information Technology Standardization Technical Committee. This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and signs, packaging, transportation and storage of e-book readers, and is applicable to various types of e-book readers and other portable electronic products with book reading functions.

In order to adapt to the industrial development situation, the National Information Technology Standardization Technical Committee recently issued a document to establish an "e-book standard working group", which is mainly responsible for the establishment, revision (promotion), and promotion of e-book related standards. The working group adopts an open structure and works under the principles of "fairness", "fairness" and "openness".

In order to do a good job of this work and give full play to the enthusiasm of all parties involved in the work, the member units are now openly recruited. The scope of the solicitation is the units registered in China that involve the production, learning, research and use of e-books.
