As an important infrastructure related to the national economy and the people's livelihood, the “strength” of the power grid network is of its own right; but the power grid is both “strong” and “clever”, and its difficulty is self-evident.

At present, what people can predict is that once the “strong smart grid” is built, it will affect China in all aspects – the true smart grid will be a huge technology, industry, political and economic complex, including from power generation to electricity use. All power links may drive the development of new materials, high-end equipment, clean energy, energy conservation, and emission reductions, as well as energy layout and even national energy security.

Huge market "cake"

Local "run away"

The national plan for smart grids is still in the making, but local governments have already “grabbed” ahead of schedule.

At the beginning of May, Jiangsu Province announced the "Jiangsu Province Smart Grid Industry Development Special Program Outline (2009-2012)", which proposed the development of smart grid industry driven by the smart grid construction and smart grid development with the development of the smart grid industry. Jiangsu Province has set an annual investment of 20 billion yuan in Zhizhi. The “grabs” in Jiangsu and Shanghai have resonated, and Shandong, Hebei, Zhejiang and other provinces have also initiated the development of smart grids.

Hao Ningda won the bid for the second round of bidding in 2010 conducted by State Grid in July this year. In this bidding, the State Grid Corporation jointly invited 1.88 million smart meters, including 15 companies such as Hao Ningda, Shenzhen Kelu, Ningbo Samsung, Changsha Weisheng, and Yantai Weistun.

Hao Ningda Securities Affairs Li Li told the reporter that this is the second time in the year for Hao Ningda to win the smart meter. In early July 2010, in the first batch of smart meter bids of State Grid, Hao Ningda won 69.80 million meters. Two bids won the bid. This also allows Hao Ningda to increase its smart meter capacity expansion. By 2012, the company's annual production capacity of smart meters will increase from the current 580,000 to 1.88 million, an increase of nearly 240%.

The entire meter industry is repeating the expansion of Hao Ningda. The State Grid has conducted three tenders for the smart grid, and has invited 2.71 million smart meters and 320,000 information collectors, involving 620 million yuan in value, and a total of 37 successful companies.

This is just the beginning. Zhi Jian expert Wu Jiandong's "China Intelligent Interactive Power Grid Development Strategy Report" predicts: In China's Smart Network construction, the next five years at least need to replace 240 million smart meters. In the smart grid investment, high-voltage, ultra-high-pressure and ultra-high-voltage equipment account for absolute weight. However, because of the high technical barriers, industry entry, and funding thresholds, this market differs from the highly competitive distribution market in that it presents a clear pattern of oligopoly competition.

China West Power Group is a giant of China's large-scale power transmission and transformation equipment. It has already won a lot in the “sweeping competition” of a strong smart grid.

Compared with smart meters, smart substations are "big trades." According to the data provided by Shandong Branch of State Grid, the ongoing implementation of the 110kV upgrade project at Zibo Lijia totals RMB 24.1 million, while the total investment for the new 110kV smart substation project in Jining Huangtun is approximately RMB 58 million.

Compared with smart meters, which are mainly concentrated in private enterprises, most of them are staring at smart substations. Looking at the “Golden Decade” is not just about the power companies. With the temptation of huge cakes, some technology companies have also “changed their line” to the tide of the smart grid.
