U.S. Voluntary Recall of Chinese Torch Lamps (Photos)

On January 10, 2008, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and LG Sourcing jointly announced a voluntary recall of the Chinese-made Portfolio Incandescent torch.

The recalled torch light consisted of a base, pole and bowl-shaped lampshade, code 179878, marked on the product packaging and at the bottom of the lamp holder. The scope of the recall is limited to torch lamps sold from March 2005 to October 2007 with UL list code E246506. Torch lights marked "ETL listed" are not included in the recall. The torch was sold at the Lowes retail store in the United States from March 2005 to October 2007 at a price of $17 per baht.

The number of recalled goods was about 90,000. The reason for the recall is that the internal wires of the torch are prone to short-circuit and there is a danger of fire. At present, LG Sourcing has received two reports of fires caused by torch lights, and no injuries have been reported.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that consumers immediately stop using the recalled torch lights and contact any Lowes retail store for a return and full refund.
