Dialog launches new solid-state lighting LED driver iW3623

Dialog launched a new solid-state lighting (SSL) light emitting diode (LED) driver. Compared with the traditional two-stage driver method, this product integrates the boost and flyback converter into a single integrated circuit ( IC), which can reduce the bill of materials (BOM) cost and simplify the design, while providing excellent performance.

LED driver

The new iW3623 ED driver was developed by Daimler Power Conversion Business Group, iWatt, which was previously acquired, to realize the diversified product portfolio strategy of Daimler to expand into the digital power management market.

iW3623 provides universal 100 ~ 277VAC full voltage input range and output power up to 45 watts (W). The device integrates a boost controller that can perform power factor correction (PFC) and a flyback converter that can adjust the LED current, and can make the high PF greater than 0.95 and the low total harmonic distortion (THD) less than 10%. Daimler's patented Flickerless design can achieve near-zero 100-120Hz output ripple, while the built-in over-temperature protection (OTP) and derating functions allow lighting designers to achieve predictable and reliable lamp life.

The rich combination of integrated functions makes the iW3623LED driver an ideal solution for a variety of non-dimmable commercial solid-state lighting downlights, PAR, T8 and flat pendant lighting applications.

The iW3623LED driver uses Daimler's patented PrimAccurate primary-side control technology, which eliminates the need for secondary regulators and optocouplers, thus further saving BOM costs. The device also allows the replacement of field effect transistors (FETs) with lower cost bipolar junction transistors (BJT). Although using BJT switches can reduce the total solution cost, achieving high conversion efficiency is quite challenging. The iW3623 solves this problem by using dynamic base current and resonant mode switches for the boost and flyback stages to achieve maximum conversion efficiency while minimizing EMI. In addition, Daimler's EZ-EMI technology can also simplify EMI filtering and further minimize external part counts.
