In the first half of 2012, the output of major household appliances declined

Affected by many factors such as the downturn in the real estate market and the withdrawal of old-fashioned home appliance policies, the major economic indicators of the household appliances industry in the first half of the year saw a significant decrease in growth rate compared with last year. The output of major products declined, and the industry development situation was severe.

Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that from January to June, the cumulative industrial output value of the household appliance industry in China increased by 9.7% year-on-year, and the cumulative industrial sales value increased by 10.02% year-on-year, which was a substantial drop from the same period of last year.

In addition, output of major products in the home appliance industry declined. Among them, output of air conditioners, electric fans, and refrigeration products that were greatly affected by weather conditions declined significantly. From January to June, the cumulative output of household refrigerators decreased by 7.4% year-on-year, and the cumulative output of domestic refrigerators decreased by 4.6% year-on-year.

However, the economic benefits of the home appliances industry have improved as production has declined. From January to May, the total profits and taxes in the industry increased by 13.4% year-on-year, and total profits increased by 14.5% year-on-year. According to the person in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, this is mainly due to the steady fall in the prices of raw materials since the beginning of this year, and the cost pressure on the home appliance industry has been eased.
