Philips strengthens layout of Korean LED lighting market

Philips (Phillips), one of the three largest lighting companies in the world, will strengthen its strategy for the Korean LED lighting market. Olivier Piccolin, president of Philips Lighting's Asia Pacific region, stated at the new LED lighting conference on the 2nd that the Korean government is very determined to replace LED lighting and believes it will gradually become a major global market. In 2008, total lighting sales, LED lighting accounted for only 7%, it is estimated that there will be rapid growth, up to 50% of sales in 2015, will reach 75% in 2020.

In addition, Piccolin introduced new LED lighting products that were launched in September. Philips' new products include LED lamps that can replace incandescent and halogen lamps, as well as LED road lighting and indoor lighting. Among them, the LED lighting that can replace incandescent lamps has been more than 70% lighter than the products that were already available in supermarkets in April, and the price is still about 20,000 won. This is also to allow consumers to easily purchase LED lighting and try to use it in the home.

The Master LED, which can replace the 50 watt (W) halogen lamp, consumes only 10W of the power of a halogen lamp, and can exhibit a nearly natural light source with a color rendering index of over 80.

Philips will also strengthen its cooperation with LED lighting related companies in Korea. Philips Lighting Division executives revealed that in order to promote LED lighting cooperation with Korean companies, they have been searching for suitable solutions since the last two months. It is believed that by the end of 2010 it will be possible to announce cooperation companies and specific cooperation programs. The cooperation scheme also does not exclude the possibility of mergers and acquisitions, establishment of cooperative companies, and commissioning of contracts.
