Zetex Semiconductors has introduced the ZXLD1360 LED driver. The new device is available in a SOT23 package that provides 1A of adjustable output current with higher power density than other similar products on the market with larger SO8 packages. The ZXLD1360 is a buck regulator that operates from a 7V to 30V supply and can handle up to 24W of output power for a variety of high power LED lighting applications.
"This new LED driver's heat-enhanced structure is 95% efficient," said Zeo's chief marketing officer, Luo Guowei. "The high component integration creates a compact LED lighting solution with few components and simple configuration. The ZXLD1360 integrates a 30V NDMOS switch and high-side current sense circuit to set the average output current associated with the external sense resistor."
When it is necessary to control the brightness of the LED, an external DC voltage or PWM control signal can be applied to the ADJ pin to adjust the output current up and down. The driver's built-in PWM filter enables soft-start by controlling the rise of the input/output current. The soft start time can be further extended by using an external capacitor. As long as a low voltage is applied to the ADJ pin, the output can be turned off and the device can be placed in low current standby mode.
The ZXLD1360 is rated for operation from -40°C to 125°C and handles transient voltage inflows up to 40V for LED-based automotive, industrial, emergency, architectural lighting and everyday lighting applications. When the LED is in an open state, the coil current flows through the external clamp diode to ensure that the drive is not damaged.
The ZXLD1360 is pin compatible with the already available 350mA ZXLD1350 LED driver. Later in 2007, Zetex will also introduce the ZXLD1362 60V, 1A driver and the ZXLD1380, which is easy to configure and supports buck, boost and step-up and step-down modes, as well as single cells for simple low-voltage LED indication applications.
