According to a policy report submitted before the conference last Friday, Chennai, India has installed 48,034 energy-saving LED street lights in the city, setting a historic record.
According to the policy report, the LED street light required for the project will cost 101,000 rupees, and after expanding the field, it will cost 3.22 billion rupees. So far, the city has 48,034 LED street lights that have replaced CFL bulbs and aged sodium lamps on internal roads and traffic lanes.
According to the report, it is worth mentioning that no other municipal company will install such a large number of LED street lights like Chennai. As of March 2016, the remaining 61,966 street lights will be fully installed. It is reported that LED street lamps consume about 40% less electricity than sodium vapor lamps.
Chennai maintains 248,467 street lights in the city. These street lamps consume about 19 MW per month and cost the company about Rs 2 crore a year.
Nearly 15,000 street lights work fine every night. The company did not receive complaints about the breakdown of street lamps, and more complaints about the dangers of stray dogs and improper disposal of garbage.
