The content of virtual reality is frustrating for users because the promise of this medium is to take users anywhere. As developers continue to develop this world, Supermedium, launched in the YCombinator incubator, is bringing a special browser to the market where users will be able to browse virtual reality content directly over the web. Although Oculus and Samsung have been experimenting and releasing VR browsers, the focus of this product seems to be to present users with 2D website information in an immersive environment. For the most part, this is because both GearVR and Rift have provided a content discovery platform through a dedicated app store. The Supermedium team wanted to build a VR browser that fully fulfilled the promise of WebVR, bringing you from a link to a completely immersive world in an instant. They are more focused on creating a basic solution, first to accommodate 3D content, and the ultimate goal is to create a website that will support you in a variety of different 3D experiences. When you enter Supermedium, the experience won't take a few minutes to download, they can be opened in seconds. This provides users with an excellent content discovery platform that can quickly find VR experiences that are not only very cool but also showcase the endless potential of WebVR. For now, most of the VR content is hosted on Steam. The platform was originally created for PC players, and although Steam has evolved to accommodate content beyond this category, some of these standards make this an ideal platform for innovative craftsmen to showcase their latest concepts. Supermedium hopes to become the home of VR games, stores and VR pages, and become the catalog of this new medium. Supermedium co-founders (DiegoMarcos, KevinNgo and DiegoGoberna) are members of the Mozilla team (Mozilla created an open source web framework A-Frame for building VR, which was influential in early WebVR developers). Supermedium is not just a content discovery platform for the market, they focus on building a browser that appeals to VR developers and users. As the augmented reality space grows, this team also wants to get involved in this area. The team wrote in the official blog post: "We have witnessed how slow the network reacts to the rise of the smartphone and app store ecosystem, and we won't let this happen again on VR." Supermedium also acknowledges that the VR industry is in the “cold winter seasonâ€, but by maintaining a streamlined team, they can continue to build their own WebVR expertise while avoiding the same expansion as the other VR start-ups in the consumer space. The dilemma, because the VR industry is still a long way from the real take-off. Both Oculus and Google are eyeing the growth on mobile platforms, while Supermedium wants to focus on the experience you can control with your hands and limit the browser to high-end VR platforms, which means OculusRift and htcvive. Looking ahead, this team hopes to join the support of Microsoft MR soon.
