There are many types of power cables , which can be divided into three categories: paper-insulated power cables, rubber-insulated power cables and self-capacity oil-filled cables. As can be seen from the above figures, the basic structure of the power cable can be divided into the following parts:

(1) Wire: It may consist of copper or aluminum wire; it consists of a circular or sectoral conductor; it consists of a single core and a triple core.

(2) Insulation layer: It can be composed of insulating materials such as oil-impregnated paper, polyvinyl chloride, cross-linked polyethylene and rubber.

(3) Protective layer: It consists of sheath (lead or aluminum), gasket, packing, armor layer (such as steel armor), outer layer (such as hemp).

(4) Shield: consists of a semiconductor strip, a thin copper strip, and the like. Its role is: 1 to prevent damage caused by corona; 2 to limit the medium into the cable or conductor insulation inside, 3 to give a symmetrical field strength, smooth voltage gradient; 4 to reduce the induced voltage; 5 to increase safety.
